Saliency and Localization by Nested Window Search
نویسندگان
چکیده
We model salient objects in images as being surrounded by more edges than they have in their interior, and address their detection by an algorithm that searches for optimal nested pairs of rectangular windows. The window that maximizes the sum of edge scores within the picture-frame like region between the two rectangles is returned. The space of all pairs of nested rectangles is a subset of R8, too large for exhaustive search even with branch and bound. We therefore restrict the geometry of the nested window pair and give an efficient algorithm to do the search in O(n1.5) running time for an image of n pixels. We demonstrate through experiments that nested window search is useful and fast in localizing objects of interest in a completely unsupervised way. Supervised classification may benefit from nested window search as well.

A Novel Approach to Background Subtraction Using Visual Saliency Map
Generally human vision system searches for salient regions and movements in video scenes to lessen the search space and effort. Using visual saliency map for modelling gives important information for understanding in many applications. In this paper we present a simple method with low computation load using visual saliency map for background subtraction in video stream. The proposed technique i...
متن کاملSaliency Density Maximization for Object Detection and Localization
Accurate localization of the salient object from an image is a difficult problem when the saliency map is noisy and incomplete. A fast approach to detect salient objects from images is proposed in this paper. To well balance the size of the object and the saliency it contains, the salient object detection is first formulated with the maximum saliency density on the saliency map. To obtain the g...
متن کاملCompressed-Sampling-Based Image Saliency Detection in the Wavelet Domain
When watching natural scenes, an overwhelming amount of information is delivered to the Human Visual System (HVS). The optic nerve is estimated to receive around 108 bits of information a second. This large amount of information can’t be processed right away through our neural system. Visual attention mechanism enables HVS to spend neural resources efficiently, only on the selected parts of the...
متن کاملEfficient Scale-Space Spatiotemporal Saliency Tracking for Distortion-Free Video Retargeting
Video retargeting aims at transforming an existing video in order to display it appropriately on a target device, often in a lower resolution, such as a mobile phone. To preserve a viewer’s experience, it is desired to keep the important regions in their original aspect ratio, i.e., to maintain them distortionfree. Most previous methods are susceptible to geometric distortions due to the anisot...
متن کاملA novel algorithm based on visual saliency attention for localization and segmentation in rapidly-stained leukocyte images.
In this paper, we propose a fast hierarchical framework of leukocyte localization and segmentation in rapidly-stained leukocyte images (RSLI) with complex backgrounds and varying illumination. The proposed framework contains two main steps. First, a nucleus saliency model based on average absolute difference is built, which locates each leukocyte precisely while effectively removes dyeing impur...
